   SUNY ALFRED STATE THESIS 2019

Currently, we struggle to remain sustainable as the population of humans has risen. This is particularly felt in urban environments where efficiency of spaces becomes increasingly more apparent. With this increase in demand and consumption, a strain on our food sources which is also isolated from where the majority of humans live.

The goal of this thesis is the strive for sustainabilty in not only terms of materiality and energy production, but there is also the push to create denser environments while simultaneously being efficient with the produced spaces. Furthermore, this thesis strives to make these spaces and benefits available to everyone. This is essential in contemporary city living which sees large divisions in social-economic statuses with in the and the pushing out of poorer families from cities.

These methods are explored through the use of exploring the applications of affordable housing, vertical farming, as well as modularity to not only gain new insights and influences, but reach towards a new goal of efficiency and standard of living.
